Below is a new drawing of my Nepenthes Gymnamphora Nepenthes Gymnamphora (Highland) is native to Java and Sumatra. It grows at elevations of 2,000–9,200 feet above sea level.

Drawing of my Nepenthes Spathulata . Here's a few facts: N. Spathulata is native to Java and Sumatra, where it grows at elevations of between 3,600 and 9,500 feet above sea level. It is on my wish list one day though. This was inspired by a picture of one in the wild (photographer unknown). Here are some interesting facts about the N. Bicalcarata : it is also known as the fanged pitcher-plant and is highly coveted and admired. It's endemic to northwestern Borneo, Indonesia . It is noted for its mutualistic association with a species of Carpenter ant (Camponotus schmitzi) that nests in the plants hollow tendrils. As an ant-fed plant it lacks many of the features that characterize the carnivorous nature in Nepenthes, including viscoelastic and highly alkaline pitcher fluid, the waxy z

Meet the artist...me!

I'm Liz. I've been doodling since I was a kid. In fact, I doodled my way though high school algebra...but that's another story for another post. After I graduated from college, I had kids and started working as a RN. I had little time to draw. Years later (about 10 years ago) I picked up my pencil on a whim and started sketching. I was quickly reminded why I loved it as a child and as a teen. It is very calming for me. I can literally lose myself in the piece I'm working on. So here I am 10 years later and I'm still drawing, painting and most recently dabbling in mixed media. My favs are animals, quirky kitsch, flowers, landscapes.
